Jan believes it is important that every research question involving animals is thoroughly evaluated, and that other, non-animal manners to answer the research question should be explored at both a national and international level. And if the use of animals is truly necessary, careful consideration must be given to the animal model. In this, the choice of species and the translatability of the research findings are key factors.
“I have wide-ranging experience within the network, for example through serving on several Animal Ethics Committees (DECs). Consistent decision-making about animal procedures is very important to me. The CCD is a key element in that process and I am delighted to be part of it.”
