Guideline 'Experiments involving wild animals in their biotope'

This guideline is intended to support the interpretation of the Dutch Animal Experiments Act (Wet op de dierproeven; Wod) in relation to procedures involving wild animals in their natural habitat. The framework set out in the Animal Experiments Act is based on European Directive 2010/63/EU. The guideline is intended for all those directly or indirectly involved in this field of research, including researchers, field workers, establishment licence holders, Animal Welfare Bodies (AWBs), Animal Ethics Committees (DECs), inspectors and trainers of field workers.

This guideline provides a further elaboration of the framework established by the CCD for licence-required animal procedures involving wild animals in their natural habitat. These frameworks are supplementary to those described in the guideline “What constitutes an animal procedure under the experiments on animals act?”, which primarily focuses on the application of the Animal Experiments Act to research involving animals (including wild animals) in laboratory settings.
